Organic: Organic products are grown without the use of synthetic chemical pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides.

Organic farming is the most familiar form of sustainable agriculture. Organic farmers use no synthetic chemical pesticides, fertilizers or herbicides. Crop rotation, fertilizing with organic matter (such as compost) and biological pest control are used instead. This form of agriculture protects water and soil quality and supports family farms. It is sustainable because it can be practiced continuously without damage to the environment.

The majority of fresh produce we sell is certified organic. Additionally, an increasing percentage of our grocery items are certified organic or contain certified organic ingredients.

Certified organic products are grown without the use of synthetic chemical pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides. They must adhere to environmental standards under a verifiable program of on-site farm inspections, soil tests and annual management reviews. Farms are required to meet all organic standards for at least three years prior to being granted certified organic status. All certified organic products are labeled as such.
